What Will Construction Look Like In The Future?
Plenty of science fiction authors have asked this question and there are as many answers as there are writers: some have even imagined a future with no classrooms at all , where all children learn from home with a machine as a teacher and consider traditional school an alien concept.
But that particular future is unlikely to come true : as much as AI is growing and studying from home is becoming an increasingly popular solution, education still requires some form of human contact and technology is a tool, not a replacement.
The hottest keyword of future classroom design is the Internet of Things. With 22 billion devices and counting connected to the Internet, a constantly connected life has become an expectation, not a novelty.
If the trend keeps up, the classroom of the future will be a smart space where the line between physical and digital is blurred. With entire interactive walls in place of whiteboards, AI teaching assistants that can sometimes prove indistinguishable from their human counterparts, and virtual and augmented reality as a way to add a digital layer of information to the physical world or even visit new places without leaving the room and, most recently, practice languages with virtual avatars as conversation partners , the classroom of the future is shaping up to be a place where technology is an essential part of the design that provides a smooth, seamless experience, not an afterthought that was added in later and runs into technical difficulties more often than not because of a combination of poor infrastructure and unprepared teachers , as it was in the early days of the transition to EdTech.
With a new generation of students coming in with the expectation of being more connected than ever and a new generation of teachers who are ready to meet that expectation , technology has not yet reached the point of replacing educators, but it is certainly working alongside them to an unprecedented degree. All the information about your skills and achievements that the increasing presence of EdTech at your school — and later your college campus — has amassed can then become a unified life record that will be more informative to prospective employers than a simple list of course titles: fresh graduates are far more valuable to the job market if they can give a handy summary of what they know and what they can do.

What do you choose? You're gonna look like Paquita la del Barrio. You may gain a few pounds as you get older, but you don't mind a little extra cushion. Guess what? You're going to look like Vicente Fernandez.
The equipment looks clunky, the uniforms impossibly baggy. Even the bodies of the players look weirdly out of shape. Why is that? Like any human endeavor, sports evolve over time. Science and technology fuel these changes, providing ever-better gear made with superior materials, better information about nutrition and training, and improvements in data generation and analysis that help push the limits of athletic capability.
A new normal: what do you want a future shaped by Covid-19 to look like?
Why is this exercise so powerful? Often times we get so caught up in the minutia of our everyday lives, we forget to think about or look at the big picture. Being able to recalibrate your thinking for a moment to be a visionary thinker helps when making smaller everyday decisions. Society has evolved to the point where many of us have come to expect gratification today — sometimes to the point that we are giving up something better for tomorrow. It does, however, introduce creativity, resourcefulness and openness about the decisions one makes in their life on a daily basis. All qualities I would argue we can all use to live a happier and more fulfilled life. Life is a constant balancing act.

Women and pro-social men. In the s there was a research study on savanna baboons, where, by chance, the most aggressive males died from stealing and eating rotten meat from a dump in the territory of neighboring baboons. The less aggressive surviving males and higher female ratio shifted the culture. The less aggressive surviving males and higher female ratio shifted the culture of generations of baboons, creating a more cooperative, happier population.
Cities used to grow by accident. Sure, the location usually made sense—someplace defensible, on a hill or an island, or somewhere near an extractable resource or the confluence of two transport routes. But what happened next was ad hoc. The people who worked in the fort or the mines or the port or the warehouses needed places to eat, to sleep, to worship.

Lockdowns and shelter-in-place orders are still in effect all around the world but many retailers are starting to prepare for what happens after they can start to reopen. Some are even expecting a boost because of pent-up demand from many customers being stuck in their homes for weeks while stores were closed. But it is probably too optimistic to expect that things will go back to normal anytime soon. As a counterexample, last week Germany allowed stores of up to m2 to open again, including car dealers and bookstores, on the condition that they enforce social distancing and hygiene rules.

Many of the predictions for the future appearance of humans are based on past trends or on the fanciful idea that body parts used more frequently will get larger, or those that are used less will shrink. Will technology replace our need for strong limbs? Will too much television cause humans to evolve square eyes? Will we have the abnormally large brains commonly seen in science fiction movies? Most of these predictions are not based on the principles of biology and evolution.

The construction industry is undergoing a period of radical change. For both mature and growing economies, the construction industry provides important links with other sectors to boost economic growth. Another challenge that technology is set to change is the issue of safety. I often talk about how dangerous construction work can be on my website LeverInjuryLaw.
